Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) Prevention Programme
The Christiana Olawumi Foundation is committed to ending Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) through community-led advocacy, capacity building, and sustained engagement. Our FGM prevention programme is implemented across five Local Government Areas in Ogbomosho, working directly with communities to promote the abandonment of this harmful practice.
What We Do
Training of community champions on FGM prevention and advocacy
Capacity building for community and traditional leaders
Community awareness and dialogue sessions
Advocacy for behavioral and social norm change
Monitoring of progress and community feedback
Our Approach
We adopt a grassroots approach by identifying and training respected community champions and leaders who play a critical role in influencing attitudes and local norms. Through education, dialogue, and advocacy, these trained actors lead conversations on the health, social, and psychological consequences of FGM and promote safer alternatives.
Community Engagement
Our programme includes town hall meetings, awareness campaigns, and interactive sessions that encourage open discussions within communities. These engagements foster collective understanding, reduce resistance to change, and build shared commitment toward ending FGM.
Impact and Sustainability
By empowering local influencers and strengthening community ownership, the Foundation is driving sustainable behavior change. Continuous monitoring and evaluation help track progress, address challenges, and adapt strategies to ensure lasting impact.
